    • Synopsis
    • Leda, an English language professor, is trying to have a relaxing holiday on a Greek island, but everything disturbs her, particularly the noisy Italian-American family crowding around her beach lounge. Nevertheless, she strikes up an uneasy friendship with blousy mother Nina (Dakota Johnson). When Nina’s daughter goes missing, Leda’s increasingly strange behaviour betrays the memories, seen in flashback, that torment her. Based on a novel by Elena Ferrante and starring the inimitable Olivia Colman (and an excellent Jessie Buckley as her younger self), Lost Daughter shows that Maggie Gyllenhaal is not only a great actor herself, but also a great writer-director.
