    • Synopsis
    • This film combines an exploration of sound, nature, and the director’s willingness to introspection, when he is suddenly faced with hearing loss due to facial paralysis. A family of Andean Kallawaya healers help to summon the patient's “little soul” or “joy of being alive”. The city of La Paz, Bolivia, and the impersonal healthcare system contrast with the natural abundance of Lunlaya, the ayllu or community lands of the Kallawaya nation. The recovery of the little soul unfolds through the sharing of knowledges, through the dialogue between the individual and the communal, and between traditional and modern lives. This breathtaking film relays a contemporary ethnographic approach to health and the lack thereof.
