    • Synopsis
    • Trying to solve the mystery of his wife’s death, Kuraki, Osugi, and Akeboshi of the Public Security Bureau bring to light the ‘Mozu Incidents’, a series of mysterious crimes haunting the department. This, however, is only the tip of the iceberg; below lies a horrifying conspiracy. Six months later, Kuraki is dispirited and Osugi, having lost all faith in the police force, has resigned to start his own detective agency. They and Akeboshi, continuing to try to get to the bottom of the mystery, encounter two major simultaneous terror attacks, one on a large office building and the other on the Embassy of Penam.
      Both crimes are the handiwork of the criminal mastermind Takayanagi and the assassin Gondo. They are in cahoots with ‘Daruma’, a mysterious figure whose existence is only hinted at in the annals of Japanese crime, in a monstrous conspiracy. Kuraki and the others head to the heat of the Republic of Penam to uncover the truth, and there find themselves in a fight to the death with Daruma, the final enemy.

      Who is ‘Daruma’, the greatest enigma of the MOZU series?
      In postwar Japan’s annals of crime, the name ‘Daruma’ is whispered in connection with every economic or syndicate criminal case that rocked the nation. There is a sketched portrait that circulates together with the name, but whether this is a particular person covering up a secret operation, or a different name for the national surveillance system, or an ultra-secret code name no one knows. This person appeared and disappeared in the shadows behind the incident that took the life of Kuraki’s wife, and his name was also mentioned by both the rogue agent Higashi, and Senior Superintendent Tsuki.
