- The Dakar Regional Express Train is Senegal's technological gem. It is the star project of Official Development Assistance, which finances it to the tune of more than 1.5 billion euros. The scrap metal workers call it the "iron snake", which meanders where their workplace was, razed to accommodate the maintenance station. This development project has thrown thousands of Senegalese living and working on its route into poverty. The French Development Agency, one of the main donors, stays silent. At the same time, dozens of French companies are taking advantage of juicy markets, sometimes got by mutual agreement, in defiance of the international market rules.
