    • Synopsis
    • Kikuko (Cocomi), an 11-year-old girl on the cusp of adolescence, is pretty, pensive, and shy – nothing like her mother Nikuko (Otake) who is brash, loud and always keen to eat something delicious. The two live on a modest houseboat in the harbour of a small fishing village in northern Japan. Nikuko is a source of embarrassment for her daughter who has a life of her own beginning to unfold. Kikuko also has her misgivings about growing up, and dreads being dragged into her classmates’ social rivalries. And then there’s Ninomaya (Hanae), the odd and withdrawn local boy Kikuko finds intriguing. As winter snowfall approaches, it seems big things are about to happen in the lives of those living in this small town.
