    • Synopsis
    • The story begins at the small Ukrainian village.

Luka- a humble icon painter, masters his crafts and keeps to himself. He is religious, somewhat naive and people often take advantage of him. It is hard to make a living in the village and Luka accepts a job to travel to the Capitol city to paint a church mural. But when the work is complete, he is denied his pay. Disappointed, Luka is about to leave, but the accidental bystander stands up for him. The stranger is impressed with Luka’s painting skills and suggests they get a drink to celebrate their victory over a greedy contractor. Luka, who has never been to a fancy restaurant, agrees. His new friend is Petro. He is an erratic businessman with drug issues, who validates himself through luxury and extravagant behavior.

He tells Luka that his real artistic skill is an asset in a world of pretenders. Petro invites Luka to accompany him to the European Art Biennale, whose theme this year is “Only God Judges Me” so that he can see for himself what contemporary art is. Luka is hesitant, but the praise of his artistic skills flatters the icon painter who can never sign his works or take credit for them. He is lonely and never had friends before.

However, Petro has his own motivation for the trip. Several months before he had dated a girl who left him heartbroken and he as just learned that she has moved to Europe and is working at the Ukrainian pavilion Biennale.
The new friends go on a journey.
