- Synopsis
- In 1984, thousands of Latin American exiles were taking refuge in Mexico, away from the different dictatorships ravaging their countries.
  With democracy's comeback, many of them decided to return to their homeland.
  
  Days before setting out on their journey back to Argentina, Pablo ‒a clever and resolute 12 years old boy‒ and his family are saying goodbye to their friends at Pablo's schoolmate Martí's house. For Pablo, the return to Argentina means an exile of his own. At his age, friends are everything. Damián, Martí and Pablo are very united.
  During the farewell party, as the adults talk about politics, football and Mexican food, the children are planning their great escape. While looking for an exit to the dramatic breakup of the group, they find out about a miraculous saint, whose altar is at a faraway town called Mahahual, a one-day trip from Mexico City, and decide to go and see him to plead for them to remain together. Griselda, another schoolmate, joins them.
  
  In full night, they manage to go unnoticed and get on the bus that will carry them into their adventure.
  While the children are making their iniciation journey, the adults are ignorant of their kids' voyage.
  In the middle of the road, the bus driver finally discovers them, so they have to run away, and end up stuck in some unknown town.
  Wandering through the town streets, they meet a peculiar character who leads a travelling cinema, with whom they will make friends —Tim, a half crazy, hippie actor.
  
  The children smoke for the first time, fall in love for the first time, go to an amusement park, tell horror stories, camp in a public square, drive a car and work at Tim's travelling cinema.
  
  When the children's parents find out about the escape, they get desperate. They gather, tie up loose ends, and discover their kids' destination, and set off after them.
  
  The kids know their parents are looking for them, but with Tim's help they manage to reach the saint's altar and make their requests. Then, they realise that wherever they might be, they'll always remain friends. They hold hands and face their parents, who now find their children strong and worn out, with a new tone in their nature.
