Ciretta, a young prostitute in Naples, adores the Mother of God. For him criminality and religion are no contradictions. When is picked up by a couple to live in their closed down theater he wants to change life. But then an investor wants to turn the place into a B&B threatening their existence.

    • Criminality and religion do not necessarily exclude themselves in Ciretta’s vision of the World, a young prostitute, deeply in love with the Madonna Addolorata. His adoration of the Mother of God is intermingled with his own profound longing for a mother that he has never had.
      During lockdown Ciretta gets to know Perzechella and Capitano, a couple that feed the poor on the street via a basket lowered from their balcony in the old town of Naples. They offer hospitality to Ciretta in their theater closed due to the Pandemic.
      The encounter with a world hitherto unknown leaves a deep impact on him. Ciretta, blessed with a rare performing talent and a stunningly beautiful voice, decides to organize a big procession for the Madonna in the center of the old town of Naples and to leave his old life behind him.
      Soon there are devastating news. The theater, sold by the owner to a new investor that wants to turn it into a B&B, is threatened by forced eviction. Perzechella is trying to reinvent herself, turning the place into an improvised chocolate factory. Soon it becomes a casual meeting point for all kind of mad and weird people so characteristic for the old town of Naples. With the closing down of the theater another symbolic battle against gentrification in the old town is lost. Ciretta brings his Madonna in a last procession to church, Perzechella e Capitano leaving the theater loose their economic base. What will become of this Naples?
