    • Synopsis
    • Founded on unique authorization from the Nelson Mandela Foundation, and unprecedented access to Nelson Mandela’s own archives including unpublished personal writing together with other previously unseen material, MANDELA: LIFE will be the definitive documentary portrait of Nelson Mandela’s life. His own story, in his own words, narrated in his voice, and woven around the events of the most dramatic and pivotal period in South Africa’s history – the ‘deadly decade’ of 1984 to 1994 during which thousands of people died in political violence, and his subsequent historic presidency from 1994 to 1999.

Directed by acclaimed South African filmmaker Mandla Dube, MANDELA: LIFE will be a unique five-part political thriller with dramatic twists, a cast of good and evil characters and a complex hero who, regardless of his own suffering, refused to give up on a deeply held conviction that peace is better than war, that collectivism will always matter more than individualism and that ethical leadership could change the future of his country.

Researched and authenticated by the three archivists Nelson Mandela personally appointed to manage access to his archive, MANDELA: LIFE will be the most rigorously researched, in-depth and personal long-form documentary portrait of Nelson Mandela’s life ever produced.
