    • Synopsis
    • A group of young men at the edges of Palestinian society struggle to maintain the stability of their once thriving trade. For these thieves and choppers of Israeli cars, a livelihood is threatened — but is that all that’s at stake? Told from an anonymous space — in the shadows between chop-shops and checkpoints — the stories these thieves provide shine new light on an illicit economy that persists today. By lending a voice to the previously ignored, Chopped seeks a deeper understanding of the structures and interests that drive black markets. Placing the viewer behind the wheel of a stolen Israeli car produces a rare insight in the praxis of these young criminals, while provoking broader questions: Where does one draw the line between politics and criminality? And when laws are written by the occupier, how do the marginalized reimagine what is possible?
