- Synopsis
- A history-making double trick play!
  A monk impersonates his fallen brother,
  to fool the shogunate and protect his clan’s existence!
  
  Calamity strikes! The reviled Lord Kira Yoshinaka (Murotsuyoshi) falls victim to a sword attack within Edo Castle! His assailant, the lord of the Ako Domain, inevitably commits ritual suicide in accordance with the law. Meanwhile, despite being slashed from behind – the mark of a fleeing coward – Yoshinaka fortunately survives... or does he? When shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi (Kitamura Kazuki) and his close adviser Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu (Emoto Akira) learn of this commotion, they see red! For committing the sin of bringing the samurai into disgrace, the wounded Yoshinaka faces the disbanding of his clan! To make matters worse, before long, he finally succumbs to his injuries.
  As if losing his lord wasn’t bad enough, Kira clan chief retainer Saito (Hayashi Kento) now has to deal with the potential termination of his clan’s existence. To find a way out of this dire situation, he comes up with an ingenious plan. As luck would have it, Yoshinaka’s younger brother Takaaki (Murotsuyoshi) is his spitting image, so Saito gets him to impersonate their lord and fool the shogunate in an unprecedented switch mission! With the help of Yoshinaka’s maid Kikyo (Kawaguchi Haruna) and his retainers, Takaaki ends up taking on this seemingly impossible scheme, in which the exposure of his true identity would result in certain death. Can he trick the government with his third-rate acting skills, and save his clan?!

  Meanwhile, the people of the Ako domain burn with the desire to avenge the untimely death of their lord. His chief retainer Oishi Kuranosuke (Nagayama Eita) and his comrades plot to take vengeance against Lord Kira, and consequently, stand-in Takaaki’s life comes under threat. However, in a strange twist of fate, Takaaki and Oishi go from would-be enemies to fast friends! Even more bizarrely, they end up conspiring to prevent Ako samurai from carrying out their revenge against the Kira clan! Although they form a common front to save their people, how do Takaaki and Oishi truly feel?
  At last, on December 14th, the day of vengeance arrives, and the men of Kira and Ako engage in battle... Ultimately, will Takaaki and Oishi be able to pull off their double trick play – a once-in-a-lifetime grand masquerade in ancient Tokyo?!
