Synopsis

HALIMA’S PATH, by acclaimed Croatian director Arsen Anton Ostojic, is a tragic film about innocents caught in the web of war and religious conflict, a well-told work that envelops the viewer and is all the more astonishing for being inspired by real-life events.
Halima is a Muslim woman with a long-suffering and pious demeanour who lives in a small isolated village in northern Bosnia. The story starts in 1977, when Christians and Muslims lived side by side in relative peace, although tensions are already in the air. It continues this century – that is, after the end of the war, when Halima is seen searching for the remains of her husband and son, who were killed in the war. The vanished are dug out of mass graves and identified from their DNA.
The remains of Halima’s husband are found, but her son remains missing, leading to the unfolding of the story of why DNA samples will not and cannot find her son. In an awful time in a terrible, environment, it’s the story of forbidden love, the suffering of women, the anguish of men, the bitter heartbreak of mothers.
